Start EARNing in 4 Easy Steps:

  1. Education – Complete the required education for your state. All states require a minimum of 20 hours, while many states also require 1 to 5 additional hours on state specific law.
  2. Account – Create a free NMLS account by visiting the NMLS Resource Center online. NMLS is the system by which regulatory agencies administer initial license applications and ongoing compliance requirements. 
  3. Register – Register for and pass the National Exam. Exams are held at independent testing centers, and must be taken in person. Testing appointments are offered 6 days a week in multiple locations all over the country.
  4. NMLS Application –  Return to the NMLS Resource Center and complete your application (background and credit check required).
